Sephiroth

There is next to nothing gamewise to cover the topic of Sephiroth’s relationship with Zack. We only know what Cloud tells us about what he believes as himself and Sephiroth. I’ve read countless theories about their relationship, ranging from them not being able to stand each other to Zack being Sephiroth’s second in command. There’s no hard evidence for anything, and any of these theories could conceivably work.

Assuming that Cloud’s forged memories simply replace himself with Zack, we can gather that Zack was friends with Sephiroth. Zack was pretty carefree and silly with Sephiroth, like he seems to be with about anyone. This would imply that he knew Sephiroth well enough that the fact that he was The General and all that jazz didn’t bother him any longer. Cloud actually says that they were something of war buddies, when referring to himself as Zack still.

Beyond that, there seems to be nothing to really draw from. Since the memories we see of the reactor are very muddled and it’s difficult to tell when Cloud is actually Cloud and when he is Zack, we can’t take much from them. Most of the dialogue in the original memory wouldn’t work for Zack, and it’s pretty hard to tell.

That makes this essay really short, doesn’t it?
